Black pepper, ginger firm up on good demand

Prices of black pepper and ginger firmed up at the spice market here today due to increased demand from stockists and exporters on the back of restricted arrivals from producing regions.
However, copra, across the spectrum of varieties, maintained a steady trend in the absence of necessary buying support.
Black pepper moved up by Rs 10/5 per kg to Rs 660/740 from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 650/735.
Ginger bleached and unbleached both rose by Rs 10 per kilo to Rs 250 and Rs 270 as compared to Rs 240 and Rs 260, respectively.
Following are today's closing rates (in Rs with previous rates in brackets):
Black pepper (per kg) 660/740 (650/735), ginger bleached (per kg) 250 (240), ginger unbleached (per kg) 270 (260), copra office Alapuzha (per quintal) 7,600 (7,600), copra office Kozhikode (per quintal) 7,400 (7,400), copra Rajapur Mumbai (per quintal) 16,000 (16,000), copra edible Mumbai (per quintal) 9,600 (9,600).
