More than 200 Indians living in the UAE donated blood at a camp jointly organised by the Consulate-General of India, the Indian Community Welfare Committee (ICWC) and Friends of India on Friday.
The camp was held at the consulate auditorium and was attended by Indian Consul-General Sanjay Verma, ICWC Convenor K Kumar and other officials.
Meanwhile, carrying on from last year, the Consulate General of India, in association with Indian runners from the club Dubai Creek Striders is organising a 10 Km run on 14th August to commemorate the 66th Independence day.
Nearly 25 professional Indian runners from the club are expected to take part in the second consecutive Independence Day run to be held in Dubai, it has been announced here.
Last year, 15 non-regular runners including two women had joined the professional team as they completed a full lap around Dubai Creek starting from the Indian Consulate.
The official Independence Day function will be held in Dubai on Wednesday morning where Consul-General Sanjay Verma will hoist the national flag at 8am (local time).

Indian ambassador M K Lokesh will hoist the national flag at the Indian embassy in Abu Dhabi at the same time. He will also read out the Indian President's address to the nation.
It will be followed by a cultural programme.
