'Blue revolution' to be launched to boost fish production: Min

Union Agriculture Minister Radhamohan Singh today said a 'blue revolution' would be launched to boost fish production on the lines of the 'white revolution' which played a big role in increasing milk production in the country.
"A blue revolution will be launched to boost fish production just like it was done in the case of white revolution," Singh said while speaking at the seventh regional meeting of ICAR at the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University premises here.
"More funds will be given to states for the construction of tanks for fish production," he said.
"India is the largest producer of milk in the world but we have to improve its quality. The Centre has decided to launch a mission to encourage native breed of cows which can adjust to the local environment better," Singh said.

"There is no shortage of funds for this mission," he said, appealing that states should send proposals to improve native breeds of cows.
Krishi Vignan Kendras would be opened in seven districts of Chhattisgarh namely Bemetara, Balod, Kondagaon, Sukma, Surajpur, Mungeli and Raipur, he said, adding that a Central Bird Research Centre would also be opened in the capital.
