BMC appoints Black & Veatch for waste water treatment facility

EPC solutions provider Black & Veatch today said it has been appointed by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for expanding its waste water treatment facilities in the city.
As part of the project, Black & Veatch will be designing a modern treatment facility to mitigate coastal pollution, the company said in a statement here.
The company will undertake a feasibility study for the proposed 847 million litres per day Malad Zone facility, besides preparing a detailed project report and tender document.
Further, it will assess the possibility of using space at five satellite pumping stations - at Gorai, Vallabh Nagar, Charkop, Shimpoli, Goregaon and Malad IPS - for WWTFs, as an alternative to creating a single, large WWTF at Malad. This approach would simplify distribution from the water reuse facilities, the statement said.

The project, once commissioned, will be the country's largest waste water treatment facility (WWFT) that will help BMC to comply with new discharge standards revised by the Central Pollution Control Board.
"Our global capability in dealing with complex waste water treatment problems, including experience in sludge digestion and water reuse helped significantly in qualifying for the project.
"Having a local team of highly skilled water engineers and understanding of the local delivery model also benefited us," company's Vice President and Managing Director (India) Anand Pattani said.
He further said the project would aim to increase treated waste water supply to the citizens for non-potable applications.
