To make effective preparedness for the civic elections, scheduled early next year, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has cancelled leaves of the municipal employees and officers.
"With an aim to avoid any inconvenience to the people of the city during the preparatory phase of election procedure, the civic chief has cancelled leaves of the municipal employees and officers," a civic official said today.
There will be around 8,000 polling centres across the megapolis and to conduct the elections smoothly, BMC would need at least five employees at a polling centre, he said.
"Apart from this, civic administration would need to keep 10 per cent man-force reserved in stand by mode and according to this estimate, at least 50,000 employees would be roped in to execute the election process smoothly," said the officer.
"This is the reason why it has been decided not to grant leave to any of the municipal employees and officers and all the corresponding heads have been informed about this decision," he added.
