A civic body corporator and her husband were today arrested from their residence in Mahim area for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000 from a person, who runs an NGO in the city, a top ACB officer said.
"The duo, identified as BMC corporator Shraddha Patil and her husband Rajesh Patil, demanded and accepted money to refrain from questioning the NGO's slums cleaning work under 'Clean Mumbai Prabhodhan Abhiyan' scheme," said Additional Police Commissioner (ACB) Vishwas Nangare Patil.
According to ACB, the complainant runs an NGO, which has bagged a contract to cleaning Nayanagar and Gadh slums in civic ward No 181 in Central Mumbai's Mahim area under the said scheme.
The complainant was being allegedly harassed by Rajesh who threatened that he would get the NGO's contract cancelled if he did not get Rs 10,000 every month.
The corporator too had complained against the victim to the BMC authority alleging that the NGO was not doing its job properly.
"The victim approached the ACB complaining about the intentions of the couple. The sleuths laid a trap and arrested both while accepting the bribe of Rs 15000," Nangare Patil said, adding that the duo were booked under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988.
