Of the 9,700 metric tonnes of waste generated daily in Mumbai, around 2,700 metric tonnes comprises construction waste and silt.
In August last year, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had started a service called 'Debris and Call', in which citizens were given a phone number to call and ask for construction debris to be collected and systematically disposed off.
"Till December last year, all the 24 wards received 3,905 calls from the residents and it removed 25,244 metric tonnes of debris and earned a revenue of Rs 25.78 lakh," BMC said in a statement.
Most of the debris was collected from suburban Bhandup, Kanjurmarg, Andheri, Versova, Juhu, Vile Parle localities, it added.
