The state government has entrusted Delhi Metro Rail Corporation to implement the Metro Rail project in Kochi, with Former DMRC Chief E Sreedharan as Principal Advisor of the project.
Chief Minister Oommen Chandy said necessary technical formalities for the project have been completed.
The issue of funding for the project would be taken up, he told reporters after a cabinet meeting.
Asked about shifting Managing Director Tom Jose from the post, Chandy said it was part of administrative decision.
"State government has given top priority for the project as Kochi is considered to be one of the fastest growing cities in Asia," he said.
The project, billed as the dream scheme of the state, envisages construction of a 26 km Metro rail on elevated platforms from Aluva to Poonithura.
