Bodh Gaya blasts: Stay calm, says Karmappa
Press Trust of India Dharamsala Tibetan spiritual leader Karmappa Ogyen Trinley Dorje has appealed to his followers not to get provoked by the series of bomb blasts at Bodh Gaya and refrain from any act that might escalate violence.
"I was deeply saddened and hurt to know about the wanton act of violence perpetrated at Mahabodhi temple yesterday in Bodh Gaya and as yet, we do not know why or by whom this sacred site was targeted," Karmappa, a frequent visitor to Bodh Gaya said.
"I am convinced that as Buddhists, in responding to this situation, the best homage we can pay to Lord Buddha is to uphold his teachings on love and ahimsa (nonviolence)," said the 28-year-old monk.
"Therefore, I ask all to remain calm and refrain from any further escalation of violence and offer my prayers for the victims and their families, and call on Buddhists everywhere to truly embrace the wisdom of Lord Buddha's teachings in all that we do," he added.
