The bodies of the two NIT-Hamirpur students, who had gone missing on January 6, have been brought down to the Sundernagar Civil Hospital from the Shikari Devi peak here in Himachal Pradesh, an official said today.
The bodies of NIT students Akshya Kumar, a resident of Sujanpur Tihra, and Navneet Rana, a resident Barmana, were brought to the hospital yesterday evening, SDM (Sundernagar) Rajeev Kumar said.
The duo went missing on January 6 while trekking in the Janjehali valley. It was on Friday that a rescue team found their bodies at the 10,000 feet high peak, he said.
It took two-days to bring the bodies up to Janjehali by a 40-member team as the path was heavily covered in snow, the SDM informed.
Kumar said the two doctors, who conducted the postmortem, stated that the two students died due to extreme cold conditions.
The bodies have been handed over to the families. The Mandi district administration has provided ambulances to take the bodies to their houses, he said.
As per information received from the NIT hostel, the students had made entries in the record book that they were going home but on their Facebook page they said they had gone to climb the Shikari Peak.
A search and rescue operation was launched after the victim's families informed the administration about them gone missing, the SDM added.
