Two villagers, including a newly elected village sarpanch, who had been abducted by Maoists, were today found killed in Chhattisgarh's worst insurgency-hit Sukma district, police said.
Bodies of Sunaam Hidma (36) who was sarpanch of the Golapalli village panchayat and a villager by the name of Punam Pandu (31) were found at separate places under the Golapalli police station limits, a senior police official told PTI.
Reportedly, the duo were abducted along with five other villagers on March 7, from different villages in the Golapalli region, located around 450 km away from Chhattisgarh's capital Raipur, he said.
After being informed about the incident, security forces were rushed to Golapalli where the sarpanch's body was lying in the outskirts.
It was brought to Sukma for post-mortem, the official said, adding, that prima facie it appeared that he was beaten to death with sticks.
However, efforts are on to bring the body of killed villager Pandu from Polampalli village -- which is his native place -- out of the forests, he said.

As per an investigation, the sarpanch was killed by alleged Maoists after branding him as a "police informer", while the exact causes behind both the killings are being ascertained, he said.
Other abducted villagers have been released by the Maoists after their interrogation, the official said.
Police personnel have been mobilised in the region to nab the assailants, he said.
