An 18-year-old girl from West Bengal has been found hanging from a ceiling fan of a guest house room in Ballimaran area of Central Delhi, police said today.
The incident came to light last evening around 9:20 PM when guest house authorities informed police that occupants of room number 403 had not been responding to calls by the hotel staff.
"A police team rushed to the spot and broke open the door of the room only to find the body of the girl hanging from the ceiling fan. His male companion was found missing. He was last seen by guest house authorities on Tuesday afternoon," said a senior police official.
The girl along with her male companion had checked into the guest house by faking their identities as Mr and Mrs Asim Barman on Monday morning.
During the search of the couple's baggage, police found their Aadhar cards.
"The deceased has been identified as Ritu Saha (18) from Cooch Behar in West Bengal and the man with him has been identified as Bijoy Roy from Murshidabad in West Bengal. A railway ticket was also recovered from the luggage which revealed that the duo had boarded a train from New Jalpaiguri on August 21 and had reached New Delhi on August 22," the official said.
There were no signs of injury on her body and so it seems that she has committed suicide. However, we are investigating the case from all possible angles and efforts are on to nab her missing companion, police said.
Investigators would also probe how they were able to fake their identities and the guest house authorities failed to cross check their claims, he added.
