The body of a 40-year-old woman was today exhumed after her family members alleged that she was murdered by her husband at Trimulgherry here, police said.
The body of Tara, who was buried on Oct. 5, was disinterred following a complaint by her two elder children and other family members alleging that she had been murdered by her husband Narsingh Rao, a painter.
"On Oct. 4, Rao informed his son Mahesh and his daughter (who stay at different places) that their mother had committed suicide by hanging herself even though they did not find any ligature marks on the body.
"After she had been buried, suspicions were aroused when it was found that Rao had told some people that his wife died in an accident," said Inspector P Ravi Kiran of Trimulgherry police.
With inconsistencies thus emerging in Rao's explanation of his wife's death, a complaint was lodged and permission sought for exhuming her body, which was done today, added Ravi Kiran.
"Police booked a case of suspicious death under Section 174 of CrPC. We are awaiting the post-mortem report and will take further action after getting the same. The motive needs to examined," the police officer said.
Police suspect that Rao might have strangled Tara, but Ravi Kiran said that "cannot be confirmed unless and until the post-mortem report is out".
There are allegations that Rao had an illicit affair and was involved in other family disputes, police said, but added that such claims need to be investigated.
