The body of a youth bearing injury marks was recovered from a village in Jangipara in Hooghly district today, a police officer said.
Prosenjit Bag, contesting BJP candidate from Jangipara, claimed the youth was an active member of his party and was being threatened by Trinamool Congress for some time, the officer said.
Bag said the police had earlier been informed of the threats but were yet to take action against the TMC supporters.
Praveen Kumar Tripathy, Superintendent of Police, Hooghly said prima facie it appeared to be an accident. However, investigations were on.
Voting in Hooghly is scheduled on April 30.
