Twenty three-year-old Paras Gupta, who had recently won the title of Mr India in a body building competition in Hyderabad, was allegedly thrashed and an attempt to rob him was made by a gang of five men posing as police.
The incident took place on Monday morning around 7:30 am when Gupta was on his way to his gym in Shakarpur in his Swift car. When he reached near the Akshardham Metro station, a Santro car intercepted his vehicle.
"Five youth came out of the Santro, identified themselves as policemen and asked Gupta to open his car for checking. As they were in casual clothes, Gupta asked them to show their identity cards. The accused got infuriated over this and started abusing him and thrashing him," said a police official.
According to Gupta's statement, all of them had revolvers, which they pointed at him and even threatened to shoot him. But as locals gathered at the spot seeing the commotion, the accused men fled the scene in their car towards Noida.
Police has registered a case under sections 323 (voluntarily causing hurt), 341 (wrongful restraint), 506 (criminal intimidation) at Mandawali police station, the official said, adding that further investigations are on.
Gupta will be representing India at the Asia body building championship in the coming months.
