An empty bogie of a stationary express train was today gutted in fire at the Central Railway station here.
The compartment of the train, scheduled to leave for Guwahati tomorrow, was destroyed in the fire, officials said.
A major mishap was averted as the affected bogie was detached from others immediately after the fire was noticed.
Railway officials said short circuit could be the reason for the fire. However, eye-witnesses said the compartment caught fire from burning garbage at a nearby place.
Fire force and railway officials put out the fire.
A probe has been ordered into the incident, railway officials said.
