Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said today that a bogus NGO had raked up an unnecessary controversy over compulsion to have Suryanamaskar in schools.
"There was a letter by a bogus NGO objecting to compulsory suryanamaskar in schools across Goa. I had to clarify that the compulsion was made by the Union government and state government was merely following directives," Parrikar said, adding, since it has been imposed by the Union government, the suryanamaskar became "secular".
"The chief minister said that upon inquiry it was revealed that the Non-Governmental Organisation's address was fake and it was traced to a government office.
"Some people are apparently disturbed because the current state government is running smoothly," Parrikar said addressing a gathering after launching an NRI Commissioner's website at Porvorim, near here.
He also clarified that his opinion is not about all NGOs in general.
"There are some good NGOs and there are some bad people who claim to be NGO," he said.
"Sometimes, the NGO helps us to identify what's going wrong," Parrikar added.
