Bokaro lynching: accused MLA's brother held, 4 surrender

A brother of the accused JMM MLA and the party's Giridih Lok Sabha candidate Jagannath Mahto was arrested while three other accused persons surrendered today in connection with the lynching of a youth at a people's court over a love affair, the police said here.
Baijanth, brother of the MLA, was arrested at Nawadih and produced before the court of judicial magistrate (First Class), Tenughat, while four others - Meghlal Puri, Kailash Puri, Jitendra Puri and Suraj Puri - surrendered before the court.
All the five, who are charged with IPC sections 302 (murder) and 134 (abatement to such assault, if the assault is committed), were remanded to 14 days judicial custody.
With today's arrest and surrender, a total of seven persons are in custody in connection with the incident that occurred at Narah village under Nawadih police station of Bokaro district on March 20.
Two more accused named in the FIR, JMM MLA Jagannath Mahto and Kewal Puri have not been arrested.
Asked about the delay in arrest of Mahto, Superintendent of Police Jitendra Singh said the police were looking into some technical aspects and enquiry report.
According to the FIR lodged by the victim's brother Anand Pandey, Santosh Pandey (22) was beaten up at a 'jan adalat' (people's court), convened by a group of people at Narah village. He died in a hospital.
His family accused the MLA, his brother and the Puris of convening the people's court over Pandey's alleged love affair with a girl.
