The who's who of the industry, including his idol Dilip Kumar and wife Saira Bano, turned up to wish Bachchan a 'Happy Birthday' at a grand party 'B 70', organised by wife Jaya and his children Shweta, Abhishek and daughter-in-law Aishwarya last evening at Film City.
The festivities carried throughout the day as hundreds of fans gathered outside his bungalow at suburban Vile Parle, which was adorned with garlands.
Starstruck fans travelled from cities like Haryana and Punjab and queued up here since morning and were seen performing 'hawans' (prayers) and distributing sweets on the occasion.
Some of them wore T-shirts bearing images of the veteran actor. Also there were a few who were chanting and singing names of all his films in a parody - "'Saat Hindustani' un mein se ek 'Sharabi', jiska naam tha 'Anand' jo gaya 'Bombay to Goa' aur ban gaya 'Don'", as an ode to his timeless stardom.
The fan frenzy outside his house, however, is not only limited to his birthdays as his people gather every Sunday for the '6pm wave-out'. When the megastar is in Mumbai and not filming, he steps out and waves to the screaming fans.
Bachchan kept his promise to his fans today as well and waved to them from his car while he was heading to the Seven Hills hospital in Andheri where he received a mobile diabetes testing unit as a birthday present from the British Deputy High Commissioner. (MORE)
