The 25-year-old cricketer, who was in contention for a Test recall for the coming series against India, died at the St Vincent's Hospital, where he was battling for life after being hit on the head by a bouncer from Sean Abbott.
Bollywood celebrities took to Twitter to express their grief. Actor-director Farhan Akhtar tweeted, "Phil Hughes Rest in Peace. Sean Abbott Live in Peace."
Veteran actor Anupam Kher, wrote, "How tragic and sad. Shocking."
"Let us resolve to stand by Sean Abbott too, at this time. It's a sport and he mustn't blame himself for what happened. RIPPhilHughes," he tweeted.
Actor Arbaaz Khan, said, "Extremely saddened by the news that Australian cricketer Phil Hughes passes away after being struck by a bouncer. RIP Phil Hughes.
