The 'Angoor' star passed away this morning following a heart attack. Aamir, who worked with Varma in 'Andaz Apna Apna', said the actor was a wonderful co-star.
"I am saddened to hear about the demise of Devenji. He was a wonderful co-star. I remember on the sets of Andaaz Apna Apna he always had a joke on his lips and kept us all in high spirits. My heartfelt condolences to his family," Aamir said in a statement.
Director-producer Karan Johar said Varma was one of a kind.
"RIP Deven Verma... Your straight-faced impeccable comic timing still doesn't have a successor," Johar tweeted.

'Fashion' director Madhur Bhandarkar, said, "Sad to hear Deven Varma-ji has passed away. A breakthrough humorist & baadshah of subtle comic timing, he made comedy look classy. RIP, Sir."
Filmmaker Meghna Gulzar, daughter of noted poet-filmmaker Gulzar, who directed Deven in 'Angoor', tweeted, "Alvida Bahadur. Watching you eat the bhaang pakodas was delectable. RIP Deven Varma Sir."
"RIP Deven Varma Ji, I grew up on your performances!" said actor Tusshar Kapoor.
