Book on Indian military's contribution in WW-I released

A book on the contribution of Indian soldiers in the World War-I -- 'Honour and Fidelity: India's Military Contribution to the Great War 1914 to 1918' written by senior Congress leader Amarinder Singh was released here today.
On the occasion, the former Chief Minister of Punjab recalled the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers in the war, saying that their contribution in the war remained untold and that is why he decided to write this book.
A short film on the war and places where Indian soldiers fought in Europe was also shown to the audience.
When asked why UPA government did nothing to commemorate the contribution of Indian soldiers in first world war, Singh who is also deputy leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha admitted that the UPA-led previous government at the Centre could have done on setting up a war memorial.
"Yes we could have done something on war memorial," Singh said.
He, however, wished that the present BJP government at the Centre should initiate to honour Indian soldiers who fought in World War-I.

Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar also gave credit to Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal for setting up a Maharaja Ranjit Singh Armed Forces Preparatory Institute at Mohali which is aimed at giving training to young boys from the state for permanent commission into armed forced through National Defence Academy.
"I am happy to say this that the credit must go to Mr Badal...They have (set up) Maharaja Ranjit Singh Institute where youngsters are brought in and they are coached for army. I wish I had thought of it earlier... (but) he (Badal) thought of it, and he done it.
"It is a good thing. I hope now flow from Punjab into defence services will improve.
