"Such kind of thing has never ever happened in the state, since Independence. This is a shame the way the students were being tortured by the police. We condemn such incident strongly," Bose said.
Thirty five students of Jadavpur University were arrested after the police forcibly lifted the gherao of the Vice-Chancellor and Registrar by the students early today.
The arrested students were later released while the agitating students lifted the gherao of the Jadavpur police station in a related development.
Congress leader Manas Bhuniya also condemned the police action by terming it as "unfortunate and unprecedented."
"The police action on JU students is unprecedented and unfortunate. It is a shame. The VC of Jadavpur University must confess in public about what really happened," said Bhuniya.
