A high-level team of doctors comprising six senior eye surgeons of AIIMS will be sent to Barwani district of Madhya Pradesh, where at least 32 people have suffered damages to their eyes after a botched up eye operation at a government hospital.
"A central team of doctors will help the patients fearing loss of vision after surgery at an eye camp. The team consisting of six senior eye surgeons/doctors from AIIMS will reach Indore tomorrow," according to a release from the ministry.
"Central team of doctors will help patients fearing loss of vision after surgery at an eye camp in Badwani, MP," Health Minister JP Nadda said in a tweet.
32 people complained of low-vision and irritation in eyes after undergoing cataract operation at a camp held by district hospital in Sendhwa town of Barwani district, following which the MP government suspended a surgeon and five other health staff.
The eye camp was organised from November 16 to November 24.
"The MP government today suspended Dr R S Palod, under whose guidance the camp was organised, assistant Pradeep Chouksey and staff nurses Leela Verma, Maya Chouhan, Vinita Chouksey and Shabana Mansuri," government spokesman Ashok Manwani had said yesterday.
Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan also announced that his government would reimburse all expenses to be incurred by the patients in their treatment.
The patients, mostly elderly men and women, are now undergoing treatment for eye infection at a hospital in Indore.
