A 9-year-old boy died of snake bite after he was denied treatment at Civil Hospital Kapurthala where anti-venom drugs were available, leading to suspension of a doctor and a nurse by the Punjab government today.
Harmanpreet was rushed to the hospital in Kapurthala yesterday, but the staff denied the treatment and referred the boy to Civil Hospital Jalandhar.
The minor died on way to Jalandhar.
Today, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Madan Mohan Mittal suspended the officials, doctor Kamraj and staff nurse Sudarshan, for their alleged negligence in performing duty.
"The child was not administered the anti-snake venom by the doctor and staff nurse in spite of its availability in the hospital stocks," the Minister said.
An official release quoting Mittal said that an immediate inquiry was ordered into the matter.
Suspension orders were issued after Civil Surgeon of the district submitted a preliminary report regarding the incident.
