Boy dies after falling into open pit: HC seeks govt response
Press Trust of India New Delhi The Delhi High Court today sought responses from the AAP government and city police on what they were doing to prevent incidents like the recent death of a boy who fell into an open pit at the Millennium Park in south east Delhi.
A bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice Jayant Nath took suo motu cognisance of the incident and issued notices to the Delhi government, its Public Works Department (PWD) and the Station House Officer of the area and sought their replies by February 12, the next date of hearing.
"Give an affidavit on what steps you have taken so as to ensure this kind of incident does not take place," the court said.
As per news reports, a 12-year-old schoolboy had fallen into an open water harvesting pit at the Millennium Park and died on December 21 when he was returning from a school picnic. He had drowned before help could be reached.
