A boy hailing from a remote village in Kupwara district has topped Jammu and Kashmir's Common Entrance Test (CET) to various professional courses, officials said today.
Haroon Rashid, who is from Poshpora village in Kupwara, topped the examination for which results were declared last evening, officials said.
Rashid expressed happiness on topping the CET, which, he said, had been his dream since childhood.
Poshpora is one of the two villages, 100 kms from here, in Kupwara district where dozens of women were allegedly subjected to mass rape by soldiers of an army unit in February 1991, four years before Rashid was born.
The state's CET examination was at the centre of a controversy in June this year as the some papers had to be postponed due to leak of question papers.
The examination for those papers were held on July 27 and July 28.
