A bullet hit Asgar Ali on the right side of his chest when he went to close the main gate of his house and the goons, who were in an inebriated state, arrived looking for his elder brother, Mukhtar, a police official said.
Asgar was rushed to GTB Hospital and his condition is stated to be critical.
During investigation, it came to light that last evening Mukhtar had gone to an eatery where he met local criminals, identified as Manni, Billa and Shivam. He had an argument with Manni after he refused to address Billa as Bhai (the slang for a don), the official said.
All accused have been identified. One of them, who was jailed in connection with a murder case, was recently released on bail. Efforts are on to nab them, the official added.
