Boy washed away in rains, Narbada canal breaches near Sanchore

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams were pressed into work even as one boy was today washed away in Sirohi district of Rajasthan amidst heavy rains creating a flood-like situation in parts of the state.
A 17-year-old boy was washed away in a brimming nullah Nataraj hotel in Sirohi as the heavy downpour continued for the fourth consecutive day today, a senior district official said.
Two other boys accompanying him were trapped in the nullah but were rescued by local people, the official said adding that search operation was on to track the missing boy.
Due to heavy rains, Narbada canal got breached at some points causing flood-like situation in 10 villages of Sanchore, another official said. NDRF teams were deployed in Lalpura, Kilwa and Bawla villages of Sanchore tehsil, he said.

On state government's request the Gujarat government has slowed down the flow of Narbada river flowing up to Rajasthan's Jalore district via Sanchore, he said.
Due to intermittent drizzling in parts of Jalore district, the water level receded and normalcy was returning in Jalore and adjoining areas, the official said.

Whereas Mount Abu and Abu-Road in Sirohi district was still blocked due to fallen rocks and damaged roads, he said.
Thousands of tourists who were stranded in Mount Abu for the last two days were moved out in 200-300 vehicles in phased manner under the vigilance of police, civic bodies and district official, and brought down to Abu-Road till yesterday evening, he said.

An NDRF team was coming from Chennai to Sirohi district to take up the emergency call due to rains, he said.
Tourists were not allowed now to go up to Mount Abu till the rains abate and roads get repaired, he said.
Rajasthan Calamity and Relief Minister G C Kataria told PTI that seven helicopters were kept on standby to meet any challenge of flood in Jodhpur, Pali and Sirohi districts, and so far five persons have been lifted from inundated villages.
Rajasthan Minister for Water Resources Dr Ram Pratap was asked by the Chief Minister to visit Sanchor where Narmada breached due to heavy rains, Kataria said.
