BPCL beat Air India 3-1 in Murugappa hockey

Former champions Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCl) defeated Air India 3-1 to set up a semi-final clash against Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) in the 88th MCC-Murugappa hockey tournament here today.
The other semi-final will be between Punjab National Bank and Indian Overseas Bank. After a day's rest tomorrow, both the semi-final matches would be held on Saturday with the final scheduled for Sunday.
In their last league tie in Group B, BPCL's Pundalik Bellary opened the account in the fifth minute before Gurupreet Singh doubled the scoreline by converting an indirect penalty corner in the 46th minute.
Five minutes later, Pundalik scored his second goal of the day to ensure a comfortable 3-0 lead for BPCL.
Air India managed to reduce the margin in the 61st minute, courtesy an own goal by BPCL.
Earlier, in an inconsequential Group A match, Comtroller and Auditor General Office thrashed South Central Railway 5-2.
