BPCL, Western, Indian Oil, CAG enter last four

Local outfit Western Railway, powered by a hat-trick by penalty corner specialist Amit Rohidas, trounced South Central Railway, Secundrabad, 5-1 to enter the semifinals of the Dabang Mumbai 50th Bombay Gold Cup hockey tournament here today.
Also through to the last four were star-studded Indian Oil from Bengaluru, who overcame Indian Navy 6-3 by riding on a triple strike by penalty corner expert Gurjinder Singh and a double by former international Deepak Thakur.
Delhi's Comptroller and Audit General rallied to edge out local side Central Railway 2-1 in another quarterfinal tie at the MHAL-Mahindra Stadium.
In the last quarterfinal match of the day, defending champions Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited from Bengaluru edged out Air India, Delhi, 3-2 through a last-minute match-winner by Ravipal.
Current India star S V Sunil scored a brace for the winners while ex-international Sameer Dad and Pawan Kumar scored for the airmen.
The match was dead-locked 1-1 at half time.

In the semifinals on December 15, after tomorrow's rest day, Western would meet CAG while Indian Oil would lock horns with BPCL.
After Rohidas fired Western in front scoring from their second short corner in the 23rd minute, the SCR managed to restore parity through Gurbhej Singh who also converted a short corner in the 33rd minutes as the first half finished on level terms at 1-all.
Thereafter Western came into their own and fired in four goals in the second period to run away with the match.
CAG rallied from a 0-1 first half deficit to oust Central Railway. International Devendra Walmiki struck Central's goal from their second penalty corner in the 20th minute as they enjoyed a slender 1-0 half-time lead.
However, CAG changed tactics in the second half and managed to score two quick goals through Darshan D S, who first converted a short corner in the 48th minute and seven minutes later converted a penalty stroke after teammate Thimmaiah was stick-checked by a rival defender inside 'D'.
In the morning, former champions and last year's runners-up Indian Oil had to fight hard to quell Navy's challenge.
Current India player Dharamvir scored the sixth goal for the oilmen after Gurjinder's three and Thakur's brace.
The sailors, who led 1-0 at half time, scored through Rana Pratap, Janma Majhi and Jaspal Singh.
