Senior IPS officer Rajan Gupta
today took over as the head of the central police research organisation - BPRD, a post lying vacant for over six months.
The 1978-batch Punjab cadre officer will serve as Director General of the Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPRD) till his superannuation in March 2015.
Before taking up his new assignment, he was the DG of Punjab State Human Rights Commission.
The post of BPRD Director General was being held in an additional capacity by CISF chief Rajiv since January after its last full-time DG, Gujarat cadre IPS officer K N Sharma retired on December 31, 2012.
The BPRD, which comes under the Union Home Ministry, plays multifarious role in developing new techniques and inducting modern technology for police forces at the central and state levels. A regular chief for this organisation is considered essential for chalking out new plans and strategies.
