The varsity was founded by a group of eminent educationists from India and abroad and the branch in the city will be a tribute to the 'missile man', late Kalam, its chancellor Subramanian said.
Puducherry minister for revenue, transport and industries, MOHF Shahjahan was the chief guest at the function.
Elaborating on the university activities, Subramanian said it aimed to lead the world in research, as it was committed to disciplinary excellence across the sciences.
The university offers a wide range of courses including journalism and mass communication to choose from, he said.
