Leaders of Delhi SAD unit and Shiromani Gurudwara Prabandhak Committee termed the riots that followed the assassination of the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by her Sikh guards as a blot on democracy.

They charged Congress leaders Jagdish Tytler and Sajjan Kumar with being responsible for the riots and demanded action against them.

"1984 genocide is the real slur on democracy, in which no case was registered by the police for years and even judiciary did not bother to take suo motu action against the culprits as (it took) in Gujarat riots case," SAD Delhi chief Manjit Singh said.

Noting that the Sikh community has lost faith in the UPA government headed by Manmohan Singh, he said, "We will take our fight to Parliament."

SGPC member Harmanjeet Singh said, "Singh being a Sikh, we had a lot of expectations from him on the issue but all went in vein."

All India Sikh Conference (AISC) members, who marched from Gurudwara Bangla Sahib to Rashtrapati Bhawan, submitted a memorandum to President Pranab Mukherjee demanding that Tytler, Arun Nehru, Kumar and Kamal Nath be brought to justice.
