A leader of Kerala Sunni Muslims today urged women from the community to take up the leadership of the oppressed, minority and backward women to "transform the destiny of these destitutes and bring changes for betterment in the country."
"Yes, you can do it," IUML Kerala state chief and its spiritual guide Panakkad Sayyid Hyderali Shihab Thangal said here.
"If you can run a family, if you can find livelihood, you can also transform the destiny of these destitutes and bring changes for betterment in the country," he said.
"You have to lead the depressed, the minority and backward women folk at large and our community in particular from tearing off the shackles of non empowerment, denial of opportunities, denial of freedom, denial of justice and denial of equality," Thangal said addressing All India Conference of Vanitha League, a wing of Indian Union Muslim League.
He urged the women workers in his party to "demonstrate the strength and precision accuracy of unleashed women power".
Noting that Muslim women in Kerala have more or less good living standards, Thangal said there were still many backward class men and women toiling for a square meal, "working like slaves" in the country.
"For some of them marriage and shelter are distant dreams. We have to open our eyes to them and understand they are our own brethren. They need security and compassion. Vanitha League should take the responsibility to take them along," he said.
"Dear sisters, take up this task. Take up this challenge. Our party and community will be with you always. Ultimate success will be ours. My prayers and good wishes will always be with you," he said.
