An American cemetery in the English city of Cambridge has been closed due to the budget deadlock in Washington.
Visitors were turned away from the site as the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) closed all its memorials "due to a lack of funding".
Both of the ABMC's British cemeteries; one in Cambridge and another in Woking, southeast England, were closed.
"Due to a lack of funding for ABMC operations [the US government shutdown], ABMC cemeteries and memorials are temporarily closed," it explained on its website.
"We regret any inconvenience these temporary actions may cause.
"ABMC will resume normal operations when a new funding measure is passed by the US Congress and signed by the President of the United States."
The organisation runs 24 cemeteries around the world, 11 of which are in France.
