The British Council today unveiled 'Mix the City Kolkata', an interactive music platform.
"Mix the City Kolkata allows you to create and share your own unique audio-visual soundtrack by mixing music samples created by artistes and recorded at well-known landmarks across the city," Director British Council, East and North-East India Dr Debanjan Chakrabarti told PTI today.
The project, a part of 70th year of Indo-British cultural ties, features 12 well-known musicians, including percussionist Pt Tanmoy Bose, vocalist Kaushiki Chakraborty, bass player and composer Mainak 'Bumpy' Nag Chowdhury, Chakrabarti said.
"The 12 musicians from Kolkata provided different music tracks which have been curated by acclaimed songwriter, producer Kutiman. Now anyperson can download an app to get access to the tracks and then create his or her own composition by mixing the tracks available in the app. They can then continuously share their own composition on the social network," he said.
Mainak said, "I am one of the 12 musicians. We have created certain sound effects which have been tweaked by the curator. None of us communicated with each other while composing the tracks and yet there was a synergy of sounds."
"Now anyone can access the curated musical composition and prepare his/her own audio/video and post that on fb, twitter and share.
I had been part of French and German international projects but this concept is out of box," he said.
