Investigations into death of the British national, whose body was found here on Sunday, has indicated the possibility of a drug cartel behind the incident, prompting police to carry out door-to-door verification of Nigerian and other African nationals in the area to zero in on suspects.
According to highly-placed police source, Roddick Andrew Raymond, 40, had connections with some local drug peddlers and had worked as a courier of contraband for them.
"With autopsy ruling out death due to injuries, it has emerged that Raymond died due to possible drug overdose or its cocktail with other medicines he took. The question remains whether it was an accidental overdose or he was force fed," said a police official.
He said police are verifying from foreign nationals here "as we suspect that either he died during a party due to drug overdose following which his friends panicked and dumped the body or it could be that he was force fed after a dispute and then his body was left at Church Lane Road in Bhogal area between 8.30 am to 9 am".
