The song called "Make Me (Oooh)", which according to its producer Robin Leach was originally planned to be released sometime this month, has now been delayed.
Leach said it was caused by "technical production difficulties outside Brit and her management's control."
The single and its accompanying music video are now expected to arrive "later this summer."
"Make Me (Oooh)" will serve as the first preview of Spears' next album, a follow-up to 2013's "Britney Jean".
She's reportedly scheduled to play it at this weekend's 2016 Billboard Music Awards, where she will also be honored with the prestigious Millennium Award.
