Britons are at their most miserable when aged 29 and only manage to smile 12 times a day, a new survey has found.
Men are four times more likely to go through a day without smiling than women, while teenagers and elderly smile more during the day than the average 29-year-old.
The 29-year-olds also suffer the worst hangovers, but women of that age have something to smile about as the research found that their hair looks its best at age 29.
It may be the fear of being unmarried at 30 that is getting 29-year-olds down, the survey suggested.
The research also suggested that a smile was one of the first things that people noticed about a potential partner.
According to one in three Britons surveyed, the Duchess of Cambridge has the world's best smile and now, at 31, her hair is deemed 'in its prime', 'The Times' reported.
The survey, by iWhite Instant, a teeth-whitening kit, found that Bristolians smiled the least, sometimes as little as twice a day; Belfast residents smiled up to 20 times a day and Londoners about ten times a day, which made it the second most cheerful region in the country.
