Most departments in the Telangana Secretariat here would be shifted to Burgula Ramakrishna Rao Bhavan, which houses several government offices, till completion of construction of new Secretariat buildings, a senior official said here Wednesday.
"Heads of most departments were asked to relocate to BRK Bhavan during construction of the new Secretariat buildings. The remaining departments were instructed to function from their directorates/commissionerates located elsewhere in the city," he told PTI.
"We are waiting for the final orders to move out to the respective locations," he said.
Some of the government offices at BRK Bhavan are being vacated to accomodate offices being shifted from the Secretariat, he said.
The Burgula Ramakrishna Rao Bhavan, popularly known as BRK Bhavan, is located close to the Secretariat complex.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on June 27 set the ball rolling for construction of grand Secretariat and Legislative Assembly buildings with ground-breaking ceremonies.
The new Rs 400 crore Secretariat buildings would come up in the existing complex housing several blocks, near the picturesque Hussain Sagar lake.
A Cabinet sub-committee, formed to make recommendations for construction of Secretariat buildings and related issues, recently formed a panel of engineering officials to submit a detailed report on available facilities and the condition of existing Secretariat and legislature buildings.
The Cabinet sub-committee would subsequently present its report to the Chief Minister.
The opposition Congress and BJP have opposed the construction of new Secretariat and legislature buildings, alleging that it "a waste of public money".
The existing buildings had served the requirements of undivided Andhra Pradesh, they claimed.
