Brother, sister arrested by police for jewellery theft

A middle aged brother sister duo who stole jewelleries from showrooms have been caught with the help of CCTV footage from North West Delhi, police said today.
The accused Chandrakant (45) and Poonam (55), residents of Ahmedabad in Gujrat, were caught by a team of police from Netaji Subhash Place area yesterday, said Vijay Singh, DCP of North West district police.
An FIR was registered at the Subhash Place police station on a complaint by an employee of a jewellery showroom in the area about theft of jewellery worth Rs 10 lakh, on July 12 this year. The accused were seen stealing the jewellery from the showroom by the CCTV cameras installed there, said the officer.
During interrogation, they also disclosed that they had stolen jewellery worth Rs 7 lakh from a showroom in GK-I Main Market in the city, on August 5.
The accused also admitted being brother and sister and committing similar thefts in jewellery showrooms in Gujrat. The shifted to Delhi after being caught there and used to visit jewelry showrooms posing as rich customers in costly dresses, added the officer.
