The two brothers of the college student who was brutally raped and killed at Barasat in neighbouring North 24 Parganas on Saturday today said they did not want compensation for their sister's death, but that the perpetrators be hanged.
The brothers Sandip Ghosh and Sudip Ghosh who were escorted by the police in a vehicle from Kamduni in Barasat for a meeting with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee were stopped by villagers who demanded they should be taken along too.
The villagers also demanded that the chief minister visit the girl's family at their village and refused to budge when the police tried to dissuade a large number of them from accompanying the brothers.
As the vehicle neared Writers' Buildings, only a few of the villagers were allowed by the police to go with the two brothers.
Food minister Jyotipriya Mullick accompanied them to their meeting with the chief minister.
Later, Mullick said that the chief minister assured help to the family and offered jobs to the two brothers.
The brothers refused the offer of employment during the one-hour meeting with the CM and reiterated their demand that the rapists be hanged.
The chief minister, who had called them, promised to resolve the issue as early as possible, the minister added.
