Addressing the troops, Kumar asked them to maintain alertness and vigil round the clock in view of forthcoming Amarnath Yatra, Assembly elections and deteriorating security situation in neighbourhood.
Kumar, who arrived here yesterday on a two-day visit, was briefed about the prevailing security scenario along the LoC as well as in the hinterland by Inspector General of the force P S Sandhu.
The DGP today visited Baramulla sector and was briefed about anti-infiltration measures and preparedness of the force and the LoC and anti-infiltration role, an official spokesman said.
Pathak visited Panjtarni along Pahalgam route and Baltal base camp yesterday and was briefed by BSF commandants about the arrangements made by the force for the yatra, the spokesman said.
He said as many as 25 companies of BSF, 15 dog squads and a bomb disposal squad have been deployed en-route the 3,880 metre high holy cave shrine of Amarnath for securing the yatra routes.
