Three BSF jawans have been chosen for police medals for gallantry for giving a 'befitting' reply to a spate of ceasefire violations along the frontier with Pakistan in Jammu and Kashmir.
The gallantry medals, all for last year along the International Border (IB), have come after a long time for Border Security Force in the domain of frontier guarding as the force has only been getting these medals in the last few years for displaying bravery in either counter-insurgency or anti-Naxal operations.
The Police Medals for Gallantry (PMG) are going to ASI Resham Pal Singh, Head Constable Sri Krishan and Constable Sanjay Dhar (posthumously) on the eve of the 69th Independence.
"In recognition of his courage, combat audacity, exemplary leadership quality and devotion to duty exhibited during exchange of fire with counterpart, ASI Resham Pal Singh of 86th battalion is awarded PMG," one of the citations of these brave men reads.
Home Minister Rajnath Singh has reiterated that BSF has been instructed to give a befitting reply every time Pakistan breaches peace on the border.
Head Constable Amar Pal Singh has also been selected for PMG for thwarting a militant strike on a BSF convoy last year along the LoC.
In all these incidents, the BSF men displayed exemplary courage in retaliating the enemy fire and saving the lives of their colleagues.
The force has also been given 49 medals for meritorious and distinguished service.
