Sixty-nine cattle were rescued from Muktapur in West Jaintia Hills district, while another 17 were seized from Tukya in East Khasi Hills district in the past 24 hours, BSF spokesperson said today.
Their cumulative worth in the international market is more than Rs 14 lakh, they said.
According to the BSF official, cattle demand in Bangladesh has gone up manifold due to the coming Eid-ul-Azha festival and smuggling them from India is one of the ways of procuring.
The seized items have been handed over to the concern authorities for legal action, the spokesman added.
