In probably the largest haul of its kind, BSF today seized fake Indian currency notes (FICN) of face value of Rs 64.65 lakh from a village near Indo-Bangladesh border in West Bengal's Malda district.
The person from whom the notes were seized was being interrogated and he, along with the seized notes, would be handed over to the police, said BSF (Malda sector) DIG Arjun Singh Rathor said.
The border guard personnel raided a house at Daulatpur village under Baishnab Nagar police station following a tip off and seized the fake currency, Rathore added.
The counterfeit notes are in the denomination of Rs 500 and Rs 1000, he said.
Malda has become the hub of fake currency note smuggling from across the border. Fake notes of face value of Rs 15.65 lakh were seized from the district in December last year, Rs 2.84 lakh FICN in February and Rs 4 lakh FICN in March this year.
