The next-gen network is aimed at better quality broadband connectivity with the exchange migrating to Next Generation Network (NGN) which is internet protocol based, BSNL NE 1 Circle addl general manager N Sujatha said.
While BSNL NE 1 Circle covers states of Meghalaya, Mizoram and Tripura, the dates for launching the next-gen networks are different for different states, she said.
According to the official, 4000 users in Shillong city will benefit from May 1 onwards depending on their upgradation of their telephone sets and in Tripura the same is being launched today.
Meanwhile, the company has also announced a new scheme for landline users from April 30 wherein all calls will be free between 9 pm and 7 am.
Sujatha said the scheme is aimed at increasing the landline usages at a time when everyone is using mobile connectivity for communication.
