A Bahujan Samaj Party parliamentarian and her MLA husband have been asked to appear before a court here over allegations of having ransacked the office of a private university.
BSP MP Seema Upadhyay and her husband Ramveer Upadhyay, a former Uttar Pradesh minister, have been asked to appear before court on November 28.
Chief Judicial Magistrate Sanjeev Kumar had yesterday ordered the duo to appear in court in connection with the case pending against them.
The court had in June of this year ordered police to file a case against the BSP duo on a complaint filed by one Naresh Kumar, security officer of Vivekananda Subharti University.
According to the complaint, the former minister and his wife had on April 3 gone to the university to get their daughter admitted into the post graduate medical programme and had sought a meeting with the director of the institution, Atul Krishna, who was, however, not present at the time.
That allegedly triggered off an angry outburst from the former minister who, along with his private security guards, ransacked the university office and also threatened its staff, Kumar states in his complaint.
The accused couple had later alleged that the director had demanded Rs 1.5 crore from them for giving their daughter admission into the PG course.
