Budget allocation for space programme just 0.06 pc of GDP

India's budgetary allocation for its space programme has been 0.06 per cent of GDP over the past two years, the Lok Sabha was told today.
In a written response, Jitendra Singh Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) that looks after the Department of Space (DoS), said the budgetary allocation was 0.05 per cent in 2013-14, and 0.06 per cent in 2014-15 and 2015-16.
As per the report 'Space Economy at a Glance 2014', published by Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OCED), the share of USA, Russia and France for space programmes in respect to their GDP is 0.23 per cent, 0.25 per cent and 0.10 per cent respectively, he said.
"Apart from these three countries (the USA, France and Russia), India's space budget, as a percentage share of GDP, is comparable with other developed and developing countries, which is in range of 0.05 to 0.07 per cent," the minister added.
